Denture Relines in Omaha and Millard, NE
New dentures will typically fit your mouth securely because they are designed specifically for your gums. As time goes on, your gum tissues can change and the denture may become looser and more prone to movement. A professional denture reline can help restore its fit and function.
When Should You Ask About a Denture Reline?
Contact us if your denture shifts while you speak or eat, causes sore spots, or needs more adhesive than it used to. Bring your denture to the appointment so we can examine both the appliance and your gums. We will determine whether a reline, an adjustment, a repair, or a new denture is the most appropriate next step.
Hard Denture Reline
A hard reline may be recommended when a full denture no longer fits your gums properly. Bel Drive Dental removes a layer of plastic from the denture’s interior surface, then fills the denture with a putty-like material that conforms to the contours of your mouth to create an accurate impression. The denture is sent to the lab, where it is adjusted to the new shape of your gum tissue. This increases contact between the denture and your mouth.
Soft Denture Reline
Some patients are unable to wear ordinary dentures because of tender gums or sore spots. Bel Drive Dental may recommend relining the denture with a material that stays pliable for one to two years before needing replacement. This material is less likely to cause sore spots than standard hard reline acrylic. Patients experiencing these problems may also consider a more permanent solution of implant retained dentures.
Temporary Relines
If dentures have not been serviced in quite some time, a patient’s gums may be red, swollen, or misshapen. This creates problems in taking impressions for a new hard or soft reline and may lead to a denture that would perpetuate the problem.
A temporary, or palliative (medicated), reline material may be recommended to allow the inflammation to subside. This reline makes the denture fit more securely and is usually soft and pliable. After the gums have recovered, the patient can be evaluated for a new denture or a hard reline.
What to Expect After a Reline
We will check your denture’s fit and bite and explain how to care for its new lining. A reline may take some getting used to; let us know if you develop sore spots or the denture still feels loose. Continue your regular denture exams and maintenance so changes in fit or oral tissues can be addressed.
